This Shoppe Is Ruidoso's Sweet Spot
RUIDOSO, N.M. — If the town of Ruidoso were like a sundae, then Misty Mountain Gourmet Shoppe would be the cherry on top. Located on Sudderth Drive, this gourmet sweets haven serves up a gorgeous array of decadent treats. You simply must stop in anytime you're in town. With a multi-splendored assortment too long to list, we have dubbed it "Heaven's Waiting Room" and white lattices, gauzy displays and veranda seating making it hard to leave. After one stop at the unabashedly pink, blue and white establishment, we're die-hard fans and thankful that these delicacies are a simple mouse-click away.
The shoppe stands out-not only for it's unabashedly pink exterior, but for it's premium products and elegant atmosphere. The 1930s building was the town's original ice house and for the past 12 years, the owners keep locals and tourists alike refreshed with iced Italian cream sodas and chai teas.
Owners Deena Hamilton (pictured above) and husband, Jeff, are a delightful couple who serve locals and tourists alike with grace and charm. They keep things family-friendly. You can meet some of their kids, who are often in the shoppe. Inside, it's gourmet everything! Candies, teas, coffees. They even offer trade-marked and caffeine-free varieties as well as sugar-free treats, jams, and jellies. They also offer fine bone china worthy of a Texas High Tea. You also must try the Honeymoon Turtles, made with real honey, delicious carmel and milk-chocolate-covered pecans. They are divine. For those weary of the Starbucks grind, they can stop in for some of the shoppe's signature Billy the Kid coffee, a rich and savory blend of Arabica coffee and other natural flavors. Another favorite is the chai latte, available in several flavors. Treat yourself to the honey spice chai latte poured over ice and topped with fluffy whipped-cream. You can buy 12 oz. chai latte mixes for take home.
Misty Mountain stands out among the long row of touristy offerings in this thriving ski resort town, offering gourmet drink samples upon request as well as sweet and salty treats. If you can't make it to Ruidoso, theses premium goods are available by ordering online. The owners are also happy to customize gift baskets with your choice of selections. The shoppe is open M-F, 10 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays, 10 to 6 p.m. For more information and how to order these delectables, click on the Misty Mountain Gourmet Shoppe link, or call 1-888-MISTYMT, or email the shoppe here.
